Step UP
Eligibility:
- Canadian Citizen, permanent resident or protected person
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Unemployed, under employed, low skill level, or employed in a low skilled occupation
- Not a full time student
- Ready to return to work
Program: Intro To Public Works
Prerequisite training course leading to high demand jobs mainly in
Metro Vancouver’s Cities and Municipalities.
Six Weeks of Training:
- Week One: Personal Awareness in the Workplace
- Week Two: Employment Maintenance
- Week Three to Five: Intro to Public Works @ Kwantlen Polytechnic University
- FREE – 3 week full time course (35 hours/week)
- Obtain an understanding of BC’s acts, regulations and safety around utilities, trenches, confined spaces
- Gain an understanding of construction safety relating to ground disturbances
- Receive Environmental Operator Certificate – Operator in Training Certificate
- Receive KPU CPS Record of Achievement
- Week Six: Job Search Skills
