Rising Sun Villas
The Rising Sun project opened in 2015 and provides a socially innovative housing continuum including:
- 23 Affordable home ownership studio strata units for men and women who have achieved a recovery based lifestyle and value community participation
- 18 studio transitional housing apartments for men and women who are in a recovery based lifestyle
- Amenity rooms
- 5 studio transitional housing apartments dedicated for individuals coming through the justice system
- 29 supportive housing beds with enhanced supports and dedicated outdoor recreation space for men re-integrating into the community from the justice system.
The Rising Sun Project acknowledges that all citizens in our city need a home. It also challenges us to change our collective thinking about the root causes of homelessness.
In response to continued interest from participants wanting to find a way into home ownership, the Phoenix Society — in conjunction with VanCity — has developed ways to offset many of the usual barriers of purchasing a home.
The Shared Equity Home Ownership at Rising Sun represents a new model for a community. Aimed at individuals who are making positive changes in their lives and who value community participation, Rising Sun gives them a way to enter the real estate market.
